Blue lights flash in the rear view mirror. There is something about seeing those lights whether you’ve done something wrong or not that makes the heart sink. My wife gets a kick out of riding with me as lights flash in the distance. Immediately panic sets in and the car begins to slow down. Before long if you could be ticketed for traveling too slow, I would be guilty as charged.
As the events unfolded, I knew the inevitable was about to happen. I saw the police cruiser out of the corner of my eye, but by that time it was too late.
So now I am sitting on the shoulder of the busy highway awaiting my fate at the hands of the middle aged officer. The offense is nothing too major, but when approaching a STOP sign in the state of Alabama as in all states, you must come to a complete halt. Slowing down until you see that no one is coming and continuing on the desired path is frowned upon by the local authorities.
Watching the cars go by as everyone is staring like a drug lord is being taken down, I realize that this situation reminds me of a time in school when the teacher is giving you down the road in front of the entire class for something that could’ve easily been avoided. Just give it to me straight and hand over the punishment so I can avoid any more public ridicule.
There are some speed loving folks out there that get a thrill out of going fast and pushing the limits of the laws. However, any time that I’ve received a citation was mainly out of a sense of rush. Get from Point A to Point B in the shortest amount of time because we are running behind or something outside of your control caused a hold up in the normal routine. Maybe there are so many tasks to be accomplished today that if you don’t travel faster than light, those things will not be realized.
“Being Busy” is not always Productive.
Our biggest fear shouldn’t be failure, it should be succeeding at something that doesn’t really matter. Are all those things that you spend so much time and attention on really that important? Some of you may be able to answer that question with an honest “yes.”
How long will it take for your employer to replace you if your number is called. You personally may be irreplaceable, but your position will easily be replaced.
Slow down. Don’t rush your life away. Drive across the country(following all traffic laws).
